This Group Hopes to Bring a Junior Hockey Team to The Lower Coast

August 26, 2022

The group looking into the possibility of hosting a Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL) franchise will be at the Gibsons Building Supplies as part of their 75th Anniversary celebration on June 4 and at the Gibsons IGA on June 5th.

There is a movement underway to bring junior hockey to the Gibsons-Sechelt and broader Sunshine Coast region, hosted out of the Gibsons & Area Community Center. A group of hockey and business people have been looking into the possibility of securing a franchise in the Pacific Junior Hockey League.

According to group spokesperson Brenda Rowe, the PJHL is looking to add a 14th franchise and the Sunshine Coast is high on the list of prospective locations.

“After some discussion with the league executive, it’s been indicated that we would be an excellent candidate,” sad Brenda. “We have been working behind the scenes to see what it would take to make this happen. We are now ready to let the community know that we’ll be looking for their support to bring this highly entertaining brand of hockey to the Sunshine Coast! A local junior hockey team can bring so many benefits to a community.”

Look for us this weekend, on Saturday, June 4, at Gibsons Building Supplies in Gibsons and Sechelt as part of their 75th Anniversary, and on Sunday, June 5, at IGA in Gibsons where we will be serving free “Junior” hot dogs and gathering signatures to garner support for this very worthwhile venture.
